Books…A Love Story

Books….aah glorious books. If anything stirs my heart it is an amazing book!

I fell in love with reading at a young age. Lying in bed next to my mom while she read me stories was just the best! Doesn’t every kid love this time? It is magical. Snuggling up to one of your favorite people, while exploring whole new worlds each and every night. I feel blessed that I had a mom who read to me.

Those of you who can relate to falling in love with books at a young age can appreciate the following story. I loved books so much as a kid, that I broke the NO PEEKING Christmas rule one year over a book. Other kids may desperately want toys or clothes but not me. I wanted my very own copy of the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It was at the very top of my Christmas wish list!

A few days before Christmas, my mom had put a couple of gifts under the tree. I saw one with my name, that looked like it could be a book, and I just could not resist! The first chance I got, I gingerly tore open the paper, being sure no one was around to catch me. Sure enough, one small peek and I discovered it was the treasure I was hoping for. I was thrilled…however, I also learned a valuable lesson that day. If you want to ruin the excitement of Christmas morning—be a cheat and open your gifts early. 😔 I regretted opening that gift a few moments after I did it. I never peeked at a gift early ever again. I am telling you though, my love for books made me do it. HA! HA!

I am sure many of you share my passion for reading and have your own stories of falling in love with books as a child. Reading truly is a gift to our minds, hearts, and souls. A great story is a little escape from the day-to-day. It is a time to learn, grow, relax, be entertained, and a time that is all our own. What a treasure!

Why am I sharing all of this with you? I want you to know that sharing books I love will be commonplace on this blog. You will notice that on my homepage I will have an area on the right side in which I will post whatever book I am currently reading. I will also do posts from time to time on some of my all-time favorite books. Today, I am starting with an amazing historical fiction book. I know you are going to LOVE it!

This book is one I just stumbled upon years ago. The author is not very well known (in fact I think this may have been her first published book). From the moment I picked up the book, I was enthralled. I could not put it down. I cared so deeply about each and every character in the book. In my opinion, this book has EVERYTHING you could ask for in a story.

It details female friendship, there is a forbidden love story, there is good vs. evil, the characters are young, old, male, female, and of different ethnicity’s. It is historical fiction, which details a difficult time in our American history. I am telling you there is so much good stuff in this story; it will capture your heart!

Calling Me Home by Julie Kibler is truly the book I have recommended most to family and friends, and it is by far the one I have received the most positive feedback about. It is not just me who loves it. Do yourself a favor and check this one out from your library, or purchase on your kindle or from your favorite book store. You will not be sorry!

Below is a link to her website with information about the book.

I would love to hear back from those of you who give it a read! Please leave a comment on this page. Happy Reading y’all!!!

XO- Kerry
