Great At-Home Manicure During Quarantine!

Are you missing your salon manicures during the stay-at-home quarantine? I know the feeling! After I scraped off the last bit of gel polish I had leftover from my previous life, I decided I should search for a new manicure set for at-home use. I wanted a kit that would have everything I would need for a great at-home manicure. I also hoped I could find a high performing set that would be cleaner (fewer chemicals) than what I had been using in the past. I spent some time researching and found a set that seemed to have everything I was looking for.

Olive and June is a company that describe themselves as “Your BFF for nails“.  This nail polish company started as a salon in L.A. Eventually the owner extended her business into an entire line of at-home products, so all of us could get the perfect manicure anytime and anywhere. Their products are sold ala-carte or you can purchase sets. There are lots of options on their website.

A few of the items that intrigued me the most were a straight-edged nail clipper, an acetone-free nail polish remover pot, and an item they call “Poppy“—which is a tool that helps you give yourself a more controlled manicure with your non-dominant hand. I liked that the nail clipper was straight because I have only been able to find rounded nail clippers in stores and I prefer my nails clipped straight across. I loved that the nail polish pot was acetone-free and that the design was a sponge in a pot which seemed super easy to use. No more cotton balls!

Straight Edged Clipper, Nail Polish Remover Pot & the Poppy

The nail polishes looked beautiful and they also checked off my requirement of being cleaner than the typical nail polish. On Olive and June’s website, they list the following in their ingredient list: “7-Free: Our polish does not contain dibutyl phthalate (DBP), toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, camphor, ethyl tosylamide, or xylene“. This was great news as cleaner beauty has been my goal lately.

I decided to order “The Everything Box” for $80.00 (The cost of two gel manicures). The kit includes: 1 nail clipper, 1 nail file, 1 nail buffer, 1 cuticle serum, 1 nail polish remover pot, 1 poppy, 1 nail polish clean-up brush, 7 nail polishes, and 1 top coat. It took about two weeks for it to arrive as shipping is slower than normal due to the state of our world these days. I was excited to give it a try!

The Everything Box I Ordered

When I was ready to do my first manicure, I went back to Olive and June’s website and watched their step-by-step video on how to get the perfect manicure. (If you order their set be sure to do this as there are some specific tips to know about).

I am really happy with this purchase! My manicure lasted a good 7 days with minimal chipping that only showed on the very tips of my nails towards the last day or two. (And this is with handwashing loads of dishes every day.) The three individual products I was most excited about did not disappoint either. The clipper cut nice and straight and the poppy was very helpful in applying polish without it getting onto the skin around the nail bed. The nail polish remover pot is awesome. When I wanted to remove nail polish, it came off super fast and easy! The polishes are pretty and the applicator brush is easy to use—again very little overage on the skin. The set also comes in a nice, sturdy box that is handy to hold all your supplies in one place. Future manicures will be a breeze thanks to this.

If you are interested in checking out their products here is a link to their website: https://oliveandjune.com/. I am not being paid by them for this, so please know I am sharing this with you because I really am happy with their kit. The website is very user friendly with lots of information on their products and how to use them. I know if you give them a try, you will be really happy with your ability to give yourself a great at-home manicure.

XO- Kerry
