Hey Y’All!
It is finally time to bust out those grills! We have been grilling like crazy over here and loving every minute of it. Sitting outside on our deck, while my hubby grills, and enjoying the warmer weather feels like such a treat. Our whole family looks forward to eating dinners outside as many nights as the weather allows. We Wisconsin folk do not take these warmer days for granted, that if for sure. We absolutely love it when it’s grilling season! Woo Hoo!
Since we have been grilling a ton, I thought I would share a long time favorite recipe that we recently made. This one is a bit of a treat, as it involves scrumptious New York strip steaks, but it is definitely worth the extra money. So yummy! I wish I could give credit to whoever came up with this recipe, but I have had it so long, I forget where it came from. Oh well, here it is for those of you who might like to give it a try.

Steaks prior to going on the grill with a rub from spices.
Garlic Butter & Onion New York Strip Steak
Ingredients
- 2 New York strip steaks
- 1 yellow onion- sliced into thick circles or strips
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon of each: salt, cumin, coriander and paprika
Directions
In small bowl combine spices, rub the mixture on each side of the steak. Heat grill on medium-high heat. Spray grill with olive oil spray. Grill steaks 4-5 minutes on each side, depending on what amount of doneness you like. Allow steaks to rest 5 minutes before serving.
At the same time, melt butter, whole garlic cloves and onions in a saute pan over medium-low heat. Cook until browned. Keep warm over low heat.
Remove onions from pan when ready to serve. Brush garlic butter and onions on all steaks. Enjoy!

Voila! Dinner is served. Delish!
Notes
This recipe serves 2-4 people, depending on how big of eaters you have. My family of 5 was fed with 3 New York strips as shown above in the first photograph. We ended up cutting each steak in half for our serving sizes. (Check out my post on my favorite knives for the kitchen if you haven’t before https://herheartstirs.com/a-cut-above-the-rest/.) You may also have to play around with the number of ingredients you need, depending on how many steaks you are making. Just know that this recipe is for 2 New York strip steaks, if making more you will need to adjust accordingly.
You will notice in the picture featuring the raw steaks and spices that I have a type of sea salt featured. The brand is La Baleine. I first heard about this particular salt when my husband and I stayed at a really nice Wisconsin resort (The Osthoff) for the weekend. I took a cooking class there and the chef shared with us that La Baleine sea salt is the only salt they use at the resort. He gave me all sorts of reasons as to why it is so good, but of course, I have forgotten them now. If you would like to read up on the brand, you can do so here. https://www.labaleine.us/ I purchased this salt right after that get-away weekend and I really love it. La Baleine is the only salt I use for cooking now unless a recipe specifically calls for kosher salt. I first purchased it from Amazon, but I have recently seen it in regular grocery stores. You may want to give it a try. Who knows…maybe it will bring your cooking up a notch.😉
I hope you give this recipe a try and that your family enjoys it as much as we do! Get out there and grill while it’s grilling season! Woo Hoo!

Kerry, I can’t wait to try your steak recipe! We love to grill and have meat-eaters in my house! Also, what a thoughtful hostess gift — and thanks for the link to the website. I’ve been looking for a dutch oven since my hubby started to make homemade bread during the coronavirus quarantine. It looks like they have a nice one on their website. Also, I’m a huge believer in listening and learning on the go. N.E.T. (no extra time) learning! Thanks for another helpful post.
You are very welcome Michelle! My goal for this blog is to share Christ with others, along with helping my readers with their everyday lives. I am glad you found these tips helpful!
